The 15 Best Podcasts for New Product-Driven Entrepreneurs

The 15 Best Podcasts for New Product-Driven Entrepreneurs

It’s an age-old debate: are true entrepreneurs born with a certain spirit and mindset that drives them with a need to create something and succeed from their own endeavours? Or can anyone become an entrepreneur with the right training and mentorship?

No matter what side of the fence you’re on in that debate, one thing is for certain: no entrepreneur begins their journey with all the knowledge they need to launch a product and grow a business.

There’s always more to learn, new ideas to share, and different paths to try. Thankfully, entrepreneurs don’t have to subject themselves to textbook studies. There is a wealth of podcasts putting out regular content to help dodge pitfalls and grow your business successfully.

To help get you started, I’ve compiled a list of the 15 best podcasts for any entrepreneur launching or growing a product-centric business:

1. This Week in Startups

this week in Startups

When you’re looking for actionable tips and advice to grow your startup, from simple business acumen to clever and creative growth hacking, you turn to This Week in Startups. Twice a week Jason Calacanis, former entrepreneur turned investor, brings big names from the business world on to provide inspiration and advice for new entrepreneurs.

It’s not all product related, but there’s enough content spread across all aspects of growing a startup that you’ll glean actionable advice from every episode.

2. Mixergy

Mixergy

I really can’t think of any other podcasts that tie into a premium level subscription model, offering value-added goods that include master’s level courses for entrepreneurs. I was blown away when I dug into the course offering of Mixergy.

Not only do you get tremendous takeaways from the show itself, you can also get access to courses that help you navigate everything from product marketing to refinement of sales funnels, social media, media buying and more.

3. Lean Startup

Lean Startup

Launching a product-centric startup takes a lot of capital; it’s not uncommon for entrepreneurs to capsize and sink when they run out of money.

Since 2005, Mark Graban has worked to help startups learn to go lean, reducing overhead costs without sacrificing safety, quality or their morals. In addition to that, The Lean Startup podcast offers sound advice on leadership and team development.

4. The Full Ratchet

The Full Ratchet

Unless you’ve got your own backing or you’re bootstrapping a startup, you’re going to need capital. For many entrepreneurs that means a VC or angel investor. How much simpler would life be for you if you could get into their heads and understand what makes them tick, how they think, what they’re looking for and why they turn down startups?

With regular episodes being published, The Full Ratchet interviews VC and investor veterans to give startups insight into the process so they can improve their odds with acquiring funding.

5. Rocketship

Rocketship

Rocketship.fm has more than 200 interviews with world-class entrepreneurs. With each episode, they dig into the issues that matter most for startups, including product development, sales tactics, team development, strategy for growth, culture, vision and marketing.

It’s a must listen for every startup founder, no matter the stage of your launch.

6. Product People

Product People

While a number of the episodes do focus on software and web-based products, any product-focused entrepreneur can glean information applicable to a model that manufactures or deals in tangible or consumer packaged goods.

The hosts of Product People, Kyle Fox and Justin Jackson, focus on providing advice around development, design and product marketing.

7. Product Hunt Radio

product hunt radio

Product Hunt Radio isn’t your typically podcast focused on helping startups grow. Instead of providing actionable advice, host Ryan Hoover instead highlights new product-focused startups. This is a great opportunity to see how other products have grown, how they launch, how they position their USP and how they market themselves.

Above all else, it’s a great way to find products – particularly SaaS products – that can be used to help you grow your own startup.

8. Build & Launch

build & launch

Each week, Build & Launch host Justin Jackson sits down to talk about the process of building and launching new products. For any product-focused entrepreneur in the early or pre-launch stages, the first season of the show is a must listen. You’re guaranteed to come across things you hadn’t considered, and it can save an entrepreneur from making some of the most common mistakes.

It’s an A+ show for saving you from a lot of time wasted on trial and error, and that’s why it made it onto my list of these best podcasts.

9. Design Details

Design Details

Design Details hails itself as “a show about the people who design our favorite products”. For a product-focused entrepreneur, this show is pure brain food, covering everything from physical product development to the long and tedious process of building teams and launching both digital and physical products.

The interviews are highly diverse from all manner of industries, and cover topics including working with freelancers, prototyping, design processing, building a corporate culture, handling criticism, remote work, finding inspiration and so much more.

10. Ask Gary Vee

ask Gary Vee

I wavered a bit and wasn’t sure about adding Gary Vaynerchuk’s show to the list. While the Ask Gary Vee show isn’t really product focused at all, it’s hard not to get sucked into Gary’s charismatic way of engaging you during his shows. He offers a wealth of advice for entrepreneurs aimed at getting you moving, motivation, team development, leadership and more.

A lot of his advice comes from his own experience growing his family business, Wine Library. Given his background in product development, marketing, and growth experience, he’s got legit advice to offer that’s worth paying attention to.

11. The Growth Show

the growth show

The Growth Show was created by HubSpot. If anyone knows a thing or two about growth and marketing, it’s HubSpot. Simply put, they’re a leader in inbound marketing and they pack their shows with plenty of great content on driving growth.

It’s not just marketing information, though. Each week is a case study into the remarkable growth of a successful company or entrepreneur, covering business growth, team development, scalability, and more.

12. Reboot

reboot

If you want to develop a great product and grow a successful company, you need to absorb advice from all angles. That includes understanding failure. How you handle the issues in your daily life, both emotional and psychological, plays a huge role in how your company will grow and succeed (or fail).

The Reboot podcast tackles these issues and talks with founders about their journey through launching and developing a business, their achievements and most importantly their failures. It’s a sobering view into the founder’s life that every new entrepreneur should listen to.

13. This is Product Management

this is product management

This is Product Management was created by host Mike Fishbein as a channel through which he could teach product-focused entrepreneurs about product management from A to Z, including how to successfully run a product team.

He breaks product management down and teaches you how it plays a role in every facet of business, from your role as a founder to navigating the complexity of the employees who work for you.

14. Inside Intercom

inside intercom

Inside Intercom has a terrific blog through which they publish content about product design, startup launch and growth, customer experience, lessons learned from scaling and more. They’ve expanded on that content marketing to launch the Inside Intercom Podcast.

The show features conversations with entrepreneurs from around the world, focusing on product management, product design, startups, and marketing as they also expand on the terrific content shared in the past.

15. Starve the Doubts

starve the doubts

We tend to expect entrepreneurs to be familiar with the concept of “the grind”. It’s a bit like how Gary Vaynerchuk pushes the concept of the hustle. Entrepreneurs don’t always start out in that mindset though, and pushing that mindset on everyone isn’t always healthy.

Starve the Doubts is a great podcast that tackles the importance of emotional health and personal relationships when building a company. It also covers the idea of persistence through failure, navigating struggles and balancing work and life as you launch a startup.

Did I forget to list a podcast that product-focused entrepreneurs could benefit from? Share the link to the show in the comments and tell me why you love it.
