You are afraid.
Because you have been living in a nightmare.
This is not the kind of nightmare when you run as fast as you can, and you don`t move an inch, while the boogeyman is closing in.
This is much worse.
You are putting all your time and effort into writing blog posts, but it seems to have no impact on your traffic.
You have tried writing 500 words, 1000 words and even 2000 word blog posts…
You have tried publishing a post once a month, once a week and perhaps even every day…
…but every time you login to check your traffic statistics, Google Analytics mockingly slaps you in the face with zero visits.
And what`s even worse, is that you start thinking that you don`t have what it takes to become a successful blogger.
Can you relate?
If so, no worries. I`ve been there too.
Relax. I got your back.
Let me show you how to skyrocket your blog by becoming a blogger outreach ninja.
Why you have no guests at your party
Imagine that you are hosting a party. You have been preparing for weeks in advance, and you have done everything within your power to make it the best party ever.
When you are finished preparing for the party, do you then just sit down and wait for your guests to magically appear from nowhere?
No, you don’t.
What do you do?
You promote your party and invite guests like your life was depending on it, right?
Since you have been putting in so much time and effort to prepare for the party, you sure as heck want to have guests.
Why should publishing your blog posts be any different?
When you have written your most awesome stuff, you have to promote it like crazy, so people can come to your party.
If not, you might as well not have written the blog post at all.
How to get a truckload of guests
What is the best way to get 100 people to your party?
You could personally reach out to 200 people and invite them to your party, and 50% would probably be no-shows.
That is a lot of work, right?
What If you could just reach out to 5 popular people, who easily could bring 19 guests to the party?
That would be pretty awesome, right?
So, instead of reaching out to 200 people, you could just reach out to 5 popular people, and you would have 100 people at your party in no time.
That is one of the awesome benefits of knowing popular people.
The same goes for your blog.
When you get to know these popular people A.K.A. the influencers, kingmakers, top dogs and bigwigs…
everything changes.
You go from the person who no one knew existed to the person who can drive truckloads of traffic by only reaching out to a few influencers.
I know it works, because it happened to me.
And it can for you too.
Connecting with the big dogs isn’t rocket science
How do people normally reach out to influential people online?
They ask the influencer to promote their blog post or do some crazy favor that the influential person probably even wouldn’t do for their best friend.
Don’t be one of those nutcases. You will just burn bridges and become blacklisted for all eternity.
Connecting with people online is not rocket science.
It’s just like connecting with people in the real world.
Influencers are neither demi-gods nor some sacred beings floating around on a cloud. They are real people, just like you and me.
The only difference is that they are very good at what they are doing, but more importantly…
they are well known by others for their skillset.
I am going to not only show you how to connect with influencers the right way, I am going to show you what not to do too.
Sometimes knowing what not to do, is as important as knowing what to do.
I have a few basic principles when it comes to connecting with influencers the right way.
Let’s go through them quickly:
- Always provide value for the influencer
- Expect nothing in return
- Be polite
- Act like a human being
Then over to the one million dollar question:
What is the difference between getting to know people online and in real life?
If you answered nothing, then a high five to you! *SLAP*
You get the point.
Let me show you how I got to know one of the most connected online entrepreneurs out there…
Jaime Tardy from Eventual Millionaire
Example of what NOT to do:
Send a tweet that looks like this “Hey, if you want a cool guest on your podcast, you should interview me. Thanks in advance.”
Example of what I did:
I had already listened to an interview the great blogger Yaro Starak from Entrepreneurs-Journey had done with Jaime, and I noticed that she was really into UFC.
Since I’m also a UFC fan, why not lead with that?
I contacted her on Twitter.
Step 1: The icebreaker (first encounter)
Jaime replied and followed me back:
Step 2: Give some value
Step 3: Give more value
First a background story: Sonia Thompson from TRY Biz School was featuring me on a roundup post together with the awesome entrepreneur John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneurs On Fire (yeah, I know John too), who is the founder of The Freedom Journal.
He gave some awesome praise to Jaime in that roundup post, and I saw this as a great opportunity to let her know.
I sent Jaime this email:
She thanked me and invited me to join her mastermind group.
How awesome is that?
When you have given a lot of value first, you can ask for small favors in return.
She said yes to contribute to my HUGE roundup post 80 Productivity Tips From Incredibly Busy Experts, which generated 20 231 page views in 6 days, got 1500+ shares, 80 comments and won the “MOST EPIC” category on Jon Morrow’s awesome blog Boost Blog Traffic.
You might be thinking: “Tor, blogger outreach is important. I get it. But can it really help you to skyrocket your blog?”
A good question indeed.
Judge for yourself…
In my first year of blogging I achieved the following:
- Got 2000 targeted Twitter followers in 38 days (free traffic) – I now have about 12 300 followers
- Wrote a post that generated 20,231 page views in 6 days, 1500+ social shares and 80 comments
- Won “Most Epic blog post” on Jon Morrow`s blog Boost Blog Traffic
- Became a moderator for Serious Bloggers Only (Jon Morrow`s mastermind group)
- Became a case study for Jon Morrow’s Guest Blogging course
- Was asked to go through and give feedback on Jon Morrow’s Blog Launch Formula course
- Increased my email list by 779 subscribers in 60 days (by working 40 days)
- Included among the top 100 personal development blogs on 99 Smart Ideas
- Got 28 guest posts published on big websites, including Pick The Brain, Addicted 2 Success, Jeff Bullas, Tiny Buddha, Lifehack, etc.
- Got featured as a productivity expert on Inc.
- Got featured as an expert on 44 blogs, including Ahrefs, SEM Rush, Post Planner, Monster, etc.
- Added 347 subscribers to my list in one day by using what I call “The Banking Technique”
- Connected with hundreds of influencers by using what I call “The Thanks For The Party Technique”
- Created several digital products
- Have 3 blog posts ranking on the first page of Google, and several on page 2 and 3 (still climbing)
Note: Nothing of the above would have been possible, if I didn`t have a clear blogger outreach strategy.
Sum up
You now know the importance of blogger outreach and how to connect with influencers. However, having the recipe is totally useless, if you don’t apply it.
Remember to always provide value first without expecting anything in return. Do that consistently and many awesome opportunities will arise.
What is your experience with blogger outreach? What kind of impact did it have on your blog?
